EXPLORING TOMB RAIDER ON SMARTPHONES AND TABLETS
[ 6 June 2025 ]
The Tomb Raider franchise has made several entries into the mobile gaming space over the years, offering a range of experiences tailored for play on smartphones and tablets. These mobile adaptations span different gameplay styles and design approaches, reflecting efforts to reimagine the iconic Lara Croft for smaller screens and shorter play sessions. From puzzle-solving to action-platforming, each title brings a distinct interpretation of the character and her adventures.
Among the notable titles available is Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, an isometric action-adventure game originally developed for PC and consoles and later adapted for mobile. It offers a co-operative mode and combines exploration with environmental puzzles. Lara Croft GO takes a more minimalist approach, transforming the Tomb Raider formula into a turn-based puzzle experience, emphasising thoughtful planning over reflexes. Meanwhile, Lara Croft Relic Run follows the "runner" genre trend, providing a fast-paced game in which players dodge traps and collect relics in an endless chase format.
Tomb Raider Reloaded and its Netflix-exclusive version aim to reintroduce classic Tomb Raider mechanics in a mobile-friendly format. These games adopt a top-down arcade shooter style, prioritising brief combat-driven sessions with unlockable content and light progression systems. The Netflix version is functionally the same but is made available without adverts or in-app purchases for subscribers. Collectively, these titles illustrate the variety of ways in which Lara Croft's adventures have been adapted for mobile play, allowing fans to engage with the series on the go through diverse gameplay formats.
