Comic book artist Andy Park has marked the 30th anniversary of Tomb Raider by sharing original artwork, preliminary page layouts and plot documents from Tomb Raider The Medusa Mask, the opening storyline of Top Cow's Tomb Raider comic series. Park, who began illustrating Lara Croft in 1999, shared the material alongside a message reflecting on his work on the comics, covers and video game artwork.
"Happy 30th Anniversary Tomb Raider. Going WAY back to 1999 when my journey with Lara Croft began! From drawing the first 20 issues of her Top Cow comic series to countless covers and video game art, I've always said -- I'll NEVER get tired of drawing Lara!" Park posted on social media platform X.
Tomb Raider was first released in the United Kingdom on 24 October 1996 for Sega Saturn. Developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive, the series follows British archaeologist Lara Croft and has since expanded to include films, television productions, comics and merchandise.
The franchise is currently under the aegis of Crystal Dynamics, which is marking its 30th anniversary through Tomb Raider 30, a year-long programme involving partners across gaming, fashion, collectibles, publishing and fine art.
