KYLE HIGGINS TALKS LARA CROFT CONTINUITY IN G.I. JOE TOMB RAIDER CROSSOVER

Lara Croft's appearance in G.I. Joe A Real American Hero has established the basis for the forthcoming G.I. Joe Tomb Raider crossover miniseries from writer Kyle Higgins, artist Elena Casagrande and colourist Alex Guimaraes. The crossover follows Lara's introduction to the G.I. Joe A Real American Hero continuity, currently published by Skybound Entertainment through Image Comics.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with CBR, Higgins addressed how the crossover approaches Lara Croft at a time when the character has appeared across different continuities and interpretations. Rather than attempting to reflect a specific current game, Higgins said the story focuses on established aspects of Lara's character.
The miniseries will also introduce a previously unseen mentor from an earlier period in Lara's life. According to Higgins, the character's relationship with Lara will provide part of the context for the decisions she faces during the story.
"With Lara Croft, there are different games in development and everything, I'm not looking to reflect anything super current, but I am looking to reflect some things that hopefully matter about the character," Higgins tells CBR.
"And so this story and the development of a new mentor that we haven't previously seen from a period of her life, in the early days of what she's doing and what this person meant to her and represented, but also the cautionary tale that she kind of represents, is going to show us a side of Lara here that I don't know that we've seen in a minute.
"So she's going to be faced with some tough choices, and I think characters show you who they are by the choices that they make. And I think there's going to be some interesting choices and moments for Lara in this book that we'll see if they're additive to her continuity or not. But, you know, I'm proud of what we put together."
