GALICIA REPORT FUELS SPECULATION OVER TOMB RAIDER FILMING LOCATION
[ 8 July 2026 ]
La Voz de Galicia reports that filming for an international Amazon Prime Video series is scheduled to take place at As Catedrais beach in Ribadeo, Galicia, between 14 and 17 July, with the Xunta authorising the temporary closure of the beach during that period. Ribadeo Mayor Dani Vega said the production was secured through work involving the local council and the regional government. The production has not been officially identified, although the newspaper reports that other filming locations for the same production include Asturias, Almeria, Girona and Marbella.
According to La Voz de Galicia, the reported filming has led to speculation that the project is Amazon Prime Video's Tomb Raider television series, as production has already taken place in Girona and Almeria. The series stars Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, with Sigourney Weaver also attached to the cast. The temporary closure has prompted criticism from Ribadeo's business association, Acisa, whose representatives said local hospitality businesses had been instructed not to issue visitor permits for the beach during the affected dates. The organisation raised concerns about disruption to visitors and local businesses during the summer tourist season.
Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced the live-action Tomb Raider television series in May 2024, with principal photography beginning in January 2026. Sophie Turner stars as Lara Croft, alongside Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson. The series is based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise.
The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics, with Wells Street Films, Story Kitchen and Legendary Television also serving as production companies. Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Jenny Robins, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson and Michael Scheel are executive producers.
