ALIX WILTON REGAN DESCRIBES LARA CROFT AS 'UNAPOLOGETIC' IN NEW TOMB RAIDER
[ 7 June 2026 ]
Alix Wilton Regan has discussed her casting as Lara Croft, the physical preparation required for performance capture, her view of the character's cultural significance, and her approach to portraying Lara in Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis in a new interview with Deadline, providing further details about the game's interpretation of Lara Croft.
Regan said Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider rather than a remake or remaster. She said that "for everyone who played the game in 1996, this game is absolutely true to the core of the first Tomb Raider" while also featuring "many new twists and turns and surprises" and an expanded portrayal of Lara Croft.
She characterised the game's version of Lara as belonging to the "classic Lara" era and described the character with the word "unapologetic". Regan said Lara "just says it" and "gets on and says it" without apology or qualification, adding that it was unusual to portray a female character in that way. She argued that such directness remains uncommon "even in this day and age, even in 2026".
Elsewhere in the interview, Regan explained that she secured the role after a multi-stage audition process lasting around eight months. She said she undertook weight training, running and boxing to prepare for the physical demands of performance capture, and that the character's physicality informed her vocal performance.
