TOMB RAIDER MOTION PICTURE REBOOT REACHES NINTH PLACE ON NETFLIX
[ 5 January 2026 ]
The Tomb Raider motion picture reboot, starring Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander as British adventurer Lara Croft, has reached ninth place on Netflix's Top Ten Movies list, recording 4,200,000 views and 8,200,000 hours watched. The action-adventure film was directed by Roar Uthaug, produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, GK Films and Square Enix, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures. It was released in 2018.
The narrative follows Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who disappeared during her adolescence. Now 21, Lara lives in East London, supporting herself as a bicycle courier while attending college sporadically. She rejects both the inheritance of her father's business empire and the assumption that he is dead, despite seven years having passed since his disappearance. Her refusal to accept these circumstances ultimately leads her to investigate the unresolved mystery surrounding his fate.
Acting against her father's final instructions, Lara leaves behind her familiar life to pursue his last known destination: a legendary tomb on a remote island believed to lie off the coast of Japan. The journey proves dangerous from the outset, with survival itself far from assured. Forced to rely on her intellect, determination and resilience, Lara is pushed beyond her physical and emotional limits as she ventures into unknown territory.
Vikander leads the cast under Uthaug's direction, with Academy Award-winning producer Graham King overseeing the production through GK Films. Production commenced shortly after the twentieth anniversary of the video game franchise developed by Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. The supporting cast includes Dominic West, Walton Goggins and Daniel Wu.
