LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT MARKS SIXTEEN YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Today marks 16 years since the European and North American release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light on Xbox 360. Released on 18 August 2010, the game departed from the traditional Tomb Raider format, using an isometric viewpoint and focusing on action-adventure gameplay. It was developed by Crystal Dynamics and was the first Tomb Raider title to be distributed exclusively as a digital download.

The game follows Lara Croft as she travels into the jungles of Central America in search of the Mirror of Smoke, an artefact from a lost age. The Mirror is taken by Xolotl, the God of Darkness, leaving Lara and Totec, its guardian, with until sunrise to defeat him and prevent the return of an age of darkness.

Following its Xbox 360 release, Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was released on PC and PlayStation 3. It was later made available on Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS.

The game differed from the series' established third-person perspective, presenting its environments and combat from an isometric viewpoint. It also introduced cooperative gameplay, allowing Lara and Totec to work together through the game's levels.
