TOMB RAIDER CO-CREATOR REACTS TO LEGACY OF ATLANTIS AND CATALYST ANNOUNCEMENT
[ 16 December 2025 ]
Paul Douglas, co-creator of the original Tomb Raider video game developed by Core Design, has published comments regarding the forthcoming Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis reimagining and Tomb Raider Catalyst titles on social media platform Bluesky. Legacy of Atlantis, which is based on the 1996 original, is being developed by Crystal Dynamics in partnership with Flying Wild Hog.
"There needs to be another 90%+ TR after all this time... I'm quite looking forward to seeing both new games now. Visually they are stunning, something we only dreamed of 30 years ago. We will have to wait and see if the gameplay and resulting feelings of exploration and adventure are as good," Douglas wrote on Bluesky.
The initial announcement prompted the following reaction from Douglas: "Rawr! She's back apparently. Personally I'd prefer exploring new lost worlds than another remake/remaster/reimagining of something we crafted under intense duress in the 90's. Fingers crossed, eh. Dinosaurs will always be cool though... "
Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, scheduled for release in 2026, reimagines Lara Croft's first adventure, combining modern visuals and revised gameplay systems with the tone and structure of the original game. Tomb Raider Catalyst, due for release in 2027, follows Lara as she travels to Northern India in the aftermath of a catastrophic event that has awakened ancient forces. Both titles are powered by Unreal Engine 5 and are set to be released on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
