GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS HONOUR LARA CROFT WITH TWO NEW TITLES
[ 26 November 2025 ]
Guinness World Records has confirmed that Lara Croft, the long-standing protagonist of the Tomb Raider series, has secured two new titles: best-selling videogame heroine and the videogame character with the most magazine covers. First introduced in 1996, the character has become a fixture of popular culture, with the Tomb Raider franchise expanding to 11 main entries alongside various spin-offs and mobile adaptations. Combined sales have reached more than 100 million units, placing the series among the most commercially successful in gaming history.
Lara Croft's cultural impact extends well beyond games. By April of this year, she had appeared on more than 2,300 magazine covers, including major international outlets such as Newsweek and TIME, underscoring the medium's increasing cultural legitimacy. Her influence is also evident in the wider industry, having inspired other adventure franchises, notably the Uncharted series and its protagonist Nathan Drake.
"As tremendous fans of Lara Croft, we've been so fortunate to join the Tomb Raider community on this journey throughout the years. She's been aspirational and inspirational for nearly three decades, and it's an honour to have her legacy recognized by Guinness World Records," said Scot Amos, Head of Studio at Tomb Raider developers Crystal Dynamics.
"These achievements remind us of her enduring cultural impact and the passionate global fanbase. We're thrilled to be building a bright future for Lara Croft driven by her spirit of curiosity, courage, and adventure."
