Despite domestic indifference to both previous Tomb Raider motion pictures, sources have stoked the fires of possibility once again on a third motion picture. Originally touted as a trilogy with Angelina Jolie at the helm, Ian Livingstone hinted at a continuation of the saga back in 2006. As Eidos wrestled with its own financial challenges, talk seemingly dispersed into thin air.

Two years on, and another round of rumours surface. A source says, "Lara is such a fantastic character and the games lend themselves to movies so well. Even though the first two movies were not very well received, there is still a lot of confidence in Lara and Tomb Raider as a franchise. The producers would dearly love to get Angelina back in the role and the door is being left open to her. This would be a far darker movie with a lot more emphasis on storyline."

Paramount Pictures originally produced both previous Tomb Raider motion pictures, so it will be interesting to see if Warner Bros. considerable stake in Eidos will play a role in any future production. Angelina Jolie had already expressed an interest in returning as Lara Croft despite previously dismissing a third Tomb Raider motion picture. Stay tuned for further info.
