The 75-year-old
star - best known as a ladies man in the Carry
On and Doctor comedies - will play a treacherous
ex-friend of the father of movie heroine Lara
Croft. His character, Wilson, will join forces
with villain Powell in the battle of wits against
Croft, played by Oscar winner Angelina Jolie.
A spokesman for Phillips said: "Leslie has been
cast in Tomb Raider and he's just started filming
it this week at Pinewood. It's fantastic news,
and he's delighted. He's an icon and he's doing
a lot of very, very good work at the moment."
Phillips's
part in Tomb Raider is that of a one-time admirer
of Lara Croft's father, Lord Croft, who has turned
against him and teamed up with evil mastermind
Powell. The role of Powell is being played by
Scottish actor Iain Glen, who is currently appearing
in the BBC1 comedy-drama Glasgow Kiss. Glen found
fame by appearing naked with Hollywood star Nicole
Kidman in Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes's
The Blue Room on the London stage.
