TOMB RAIDER AMONG AMAZON'S MAJOR GLOBAL PRODUCTIONS BASED IN UK

Amazon MGM Studios has highlighted Tomb Raider as one of its most ambitious global productions being made in the UK, as Prime Video outlined the scale of its growing investment in the British television and film industry in an address published by the Royal Television Society (RTS).
Speaking at the RTS London Convention 2026, Kelly Day, Vice President, International at Prime Video, said the UK is now one of Amazon MGM Studios' largest production hubs outside the US. More than 90 scripted and unscripted productions have been filmed in the country over the past decade.
Day specifically named Tomb Raider alongside The Lord of the Rings, Project Hail Mary and The Thomas Crown Affair among Amazon's ambitious global titles for which the UK serves as a production base.
Amazon is supporting its production slate through investment in UK studio infrastructure, including its long-term lease and expansion at Pinewood's Shepperton Studios and its acquisition of Bray Studios near Windsor, where a major redevelopment is planned.
Prime Video also revealed that its investment in UK television, films and live sport has now exceeded £5 billion. In 2022, the company said it had invested more than £1 billion during the preceding five years. Day said the latest figure covered British productions, talent, sport and studio infrastructure, while pointing to further investment at Bray and Shepperton.
Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced the development of the live-action Tomb Raider television series in May 2024. Principal photography began in January 2026. Sophie Turner stars as Lara Croft, a British archaeologist and adventurer. The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson. The series is based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise.
