TOMB RAIDER LEGACY OF ATLANTIS GUARDIANS OF THE TOMB CONCEPT ART

Amazon Game Studios has released new concept art from Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, showing the guardians Lara Croft will encounter during the Egyptian section of the game. According to a new blog post, the enemies Lara encounters will change as she travels from the caves and canyons surrounding the hidden city of Khamoon into the tombs below.

Level Designer Mateusz Dzieciol of Flying Wild Hog explained that wild animals inhabit the exterior environments, while supernatural guardians become more common as Lara approaches the secrets of ancient Egypt. Leopards are among the predators found in the region and can use openings in the environment to approach Lara, making their movements less predictable during encounters.

Supernatural creatures become a larger part of combat during the Egyptian stages. Experience Director Jeff Adams said hybrid creatures are introduced towards the end of Greece before taking a more prominent role in Egypt. The development team is also associating enemy types with individual regions, so creatures encountered by Lara correspond with the geographical setting.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of Lara Croft's original adventure, drawing from Core Design's Tomb Raider and Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider Anniversary. The story follows the British archaeologist through Peru, Greece and Egypt before reaching a lost island, with Lara searching for the scattered pieces of the Scion, an ancient artefact connected to Atlantis.

Flying Wild Hog is leading development in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, with Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis powered by Unreal Engine 5. The game is scheduled for release on 12 February 2027 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC.
