CRYSTAL DYNAMICS DETAILS TOMB RAIDER LEGACY OF ATLANTIS AT FUTURE GAMES SHOW

Raul Siqueira, Game Director at Crystal Dynamics, discussed Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis during the Future Games Show Summer Showcase, highlighting Lara Croft's movement, expanded environments, and a reworking of the 1996 classic. He said that while a remake rebuilds existing material using modern technology, the project instead reinterprets the original game while retaining its core elements.

"Tomb Raider pioneered 3D exploration back in 1996. With Legacy of Atlantis, we really wanted Lara's traversal to feel distinctively hers. It's precise, athletic, and deeply connected to the environments she's exploring. This is Lara at the top of her game. She's come through the Survivor Era, emerged as a confident and accomplished adventurer, and you will see that in how she moves. The swan dives, the handstands, the acrobatic flourishes, they are all expressions of her character."

"It's important for us to distinguish that this isn't a remake. A remake rebuilds what already exists with modern technology. Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis goes further than that, and truly reimagines the debut game while keeping its soul intact. Environments are larger, iconic moments like Lara's battle against the T. rex are transformed into epic gameplay encounters on a cinematic scale. This is the legendary adventure fans remember, reimagined in ways that weren't possible thirty years ago, with some new surprises."

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis features updated visuals, modernised gameplay, and additional story content while remaining faithful to the original. Built in Unreal Engine 5, it follows Lara Croft's search for the Scion in the jungles of Peru, the crumbling ruins of Greece, the deserts of Egypt, and a mysterious island shrouded in myth. It is scheduled for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on 12 February 2027, with selected editions offering up to 48 hours of early access.
