ALIX WILTON REGAN TALKS TOMB RAIDER AND THE LEGACY OF LARA CROFT

Alix Wilton Regan has revealed on the ReadyAimFire podcast that she is playing the remastered Tomb Raider video games in preparation for her upcoming role as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider Catalyst. She also discusses performance capture, Lara Croft's status as a cultural icon, the pressure of taking on such an iconic role, and comparisons to James Bond.

"I played the remaster, of the original game. Which is done incredibly well. And I'm still walking into walls and bashing my head against things," says Alix Wilton Regan. She also admitted that she has yet to lock Lara's fussing butler, Winston, in the freezer, a well-known rite of passage for Tomb Raider fans. On the upcoming titles, she says, "Lara is back and bigger than ever. I think fans are going to love the games. I think they're going to love the way that the writers have portrayed her. Hopefully they'll love what I do."

Drawing a parallel with James Bond, Wilton Regan highlights Lara Croft's unique trajectory as a cultural phenomenon that transcends video games, stating, "James Bond has gone into video games. [Lara Croft] actually jumped out of video games, and into film and animation, and the cover of NME. I think that's kind of wild. It's brilliant, and I feel really proud that she happens to be a British woman like me."

Wilton Regan's portrayal of Lara Croft aims to strengthen the character's presence as both an iconic adventurer and a modernised protagonist, presenting her as a confident protagonist defined by nuance and emotional depth. Developed using Unreal Engine 5, Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider Catalyst are scheduled for release in 2026 and 2027 respectively, on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
