TOMB RAIDER THE CRYPT OF CHRONOS LAUNCHES ON KICKSTARTER
[ 27 May 2025 ]
Lara Croft is trading her dual pistols for dice as Tomb Raider: The Crypt of Chronos launches on Kickstarter today at 10am ET / 3pm BST. Developed by Iconiq Studios -- known for detailed collectibles and immersive genre experiences -- the game brings the high-stakes world of Tomb Raider to tabletops with a bold mix of exploration, puzzle-solving, and combat. Players will guide Lara through the mysterious island of Kairos in search of a time-warping artefact, racing against a relentless corporate invasion from Natla Tech.
Players navigate a series of dynamic, tile-based levels using six Lara dice to explore locations, gather resources, and uncover the island's secrets in pursuit of the Crypt of Chronos. Each die assigned to an action increases its effectiveness, but may only be used once per round, requiring the player to choose between focusing on a single powerful move or spreading their efforts across multiple actions for broader impact. This strategic tension is at its peak within the tombs -- puzzle-filled chambers that guard valuable rewards -- and within the crafting system, where players must weigh the risks of forging loud, enemy-attracting weapons, selecting a single outfit for specific advantages, or creating limited-use abilities and custom dice to shift the odds.
Two gameplay modes offer distinct experiences: a fast-paced Adventure Book mode with structured, narrative-driven missions, and a more expansive Island Campaign that unfolds across a free-roaming, modular map. The campaign introduces unique boss encounters with distinct mechanics -- including one featuring a Tomb Raider classic: the bear. In this scenario, no other enemies appear; instead, any attempted spawn restores the bear's health, making timing and preparation crucial. With branching objectives, escalating threats, and layers of strategic choice, The Crypt of Chronos reimagines the Tomb Raider experience for the tabletop -- one calculated dice roll at a time.
