ORIGINAL TOMB RAIDER GAME DESIGN DOCUMENTS
[ 10 July 2024 ]
Design documents for the original Tomb Raider, developed by Core Design and released in 1996, are available to view under Game Design Documents in our Tomb Raider section in both image and PDF format. The cache includes early character designs, storyboards and level overviews beginning 1994 through 1996 and are part of our Tomb Raider preservation efforts.
Tomb Raider, starring British archaeologist Lara Croft, was originally developed by Derbyshire-based studio Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive on 24th of October, 1996. Tomb Raider has gone on to become a powerful franchise, spawning eleven mainline entries, three motion picture adaptations starring Academy Award-winning actresses Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, a number of Lara Croft spin-off games, promotional crossovers and a steady stream of merchandise.
Lara Croft and Tomb Raider are currently under the aegis of U.S. studio Crystal Dynamics who are developing a new multi-platform Tomb Raider title, with Amazon Games providing full support and publishing the game globally. The as-yet-untitled new Tomb Raider game is a single-player, narrative-driven adventure that continues Lara Croft's story in the Tomb Raider series.
