CANNED TOMB RAIDER REBOOT SEQUEL STORYBOARDS
[ 16 February 2023 ]
Conceptual artist Jake Lunt Davies has published new storyboards from the cancelled Tomb Raider motion picture sequel under British filmmaker Ben Wheatley. "Previously on Tomb Raider 2 Lara had finally entered the Cozumel temple evading traps and revealing hidden doors. Now as she finds a ceremonial knife in the main temple, Unuratu attacks! FYI, that's a Macuahuitl - a traditional wooden sword embedded with obsidian shards. Nifty." Jake posted on Twitter.
The sequel to the Tomb Raider motion picture reboot has been mired in controversy since first being revealed. Misha Green, Executive Producer of supernatural series Lovecraft Country on HBO, replaced Ben Wheatley at the helm with Alicia Vikander onboard to reprise her role as Lara Croft. MGM subsequently lost the film rights, sparking a bidding war for the IP.
Academy Award-winning actress Alicia Vikander is no longer attached to the project and the rights to the motion picture reverted back to Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics. Amazon has since reportedly won a massive rights deal for the Lara Croft-helmed franchise with a TV series and film planned.
