THE WRAP EXPLORES WHY MGM LOST TOMB RAIDER FILM
[ 4 August 2022 ]
Entertainment industry and film magazine The Wrap has published an analysis on why it believes the Tomb Raider motion picture rights slipped away from MGM as studios begin a bidding war for the IP.
According to The Wrap, budgeting and disagreements over the script between Executive Producer Misha Green and Alicia Vikander pushed the start of principle photography past a 1 May deadline, delaying the project and triggering the rights to revert back to Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics.
Previously Misha Green, Executive Producer of supernatural series Lovecraft Country on HBO, had been hired by MGM to write and direct the rebooted Tomb Raider motion picture sequel with Alicia Vikander onboard to reprise her role as Lara Croft.
"We can confirm the movie rights have reverted back to Crystal Dynamics, but we don't have any further comment." Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics said in a statement.
