Multi-talented
superstar Missy Elliott is starting the new year
right where she left off...blazing...and garnering
three Grammy nominations for songs from her platinum
plus album Miss E... So Addictive. The acclaimed
song Get Ur Freak On, which has also been cited
by Spin magazine as the best single of the year,
snagged two nominations for Best R&B Song and
Best Rap Solo Performance - with One Minute Man
holding down a nomination for Best Short Form
Video.
The Grammy
nominations cap a record-setting year for Missy,
with Miss E... So Addictive notching the highest
opening week in history for a female rap star,
as well as becoming the second biggest selling
female hip hop album of all time, with 1.5 million
units sold and counting. The ground breaking video
for Get Ur Freak On garnered six MTV Video Music
Award Nominations this past August, with Missy
winning two MTV Video Awards for her role in the
remake of Lady Marmalade.
Missy
also achieved a personal best in listening audience
for Get Ur Freak On, a multi-format radio smash
that attracted close to 140 million in radio audience,
ruling the number one spot on both the Billboard
R&B charts and Billboard Monitor charts for almost
two months in a row, the highest charting single
of any female hip hop star this past year.
Missy
Elliot's musical partner in crime on Elektra Entertainements
Tomb Raider movie soundtrack was U2, who have
received a leading eight Grammy nominations including
record, album and song of the year. The veteran
group's album All That You Can't Leave Behind
was virtually assured multiple nominations since
Beautiful Day won record and song of the year
at last years ceremony.
The 44th
Annual Grammy Awards will be held on February
27th at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It
will be broadcast live on CBS at 8 p.m. EST.
