According to Amazon.com's Holiday Delight-O-Meter, customers worldwide have ordered more than 8.9 million items since November 9, 2001.

After much speculation over how recent events might affect consumers' holiday gift selections and shopping habits this year, Amazon.com customers are sending a clear message: it's back to shopping as usual this holiday season. New releases and blockbuster hits are dominating the Amazon.com sales charts and customer Wish Lists.

HOLIDAY TOP SELLERS:

Harry Potter Dominates: Of the 25 top-selling items at Amazon.com, five are Harry Potter-related products, including the Harry Potter boxed set (books 1-4); the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone computer game, video game and book; and the Harry Potter Levitating Challenge game, available in the Toysrus.com teamed with Amazon.com toy store.

DVD Players Remain a Holiday Favorite: DVD players are once again one of the hottest holiday gifts. Last year Amazon.com sold more than 40,000 DVD players during the holiday season; from November 9 to November 19 this year, orders for DVD players were up more than 75 percent over the same period last year. Amazon.com features a wide range of DVD players, with prices starting at $99.99.

DVDs for the Whole Family: In addition to DVD players, customers are snatching up the hottest new DVD releases to build their home entertainment collections. Shrek, Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, The Godfather DVD Collection, The Sopranos - The Complete Second Season and Lara Croft - Tomb Raider are all among Amazon.com's 25 top sellers since November 9.

Top-Selling Books Normalize Post-September 11: While interest in books related to current events remains high, fall book releases such as Jack Welch's Jack: Straight from the Gut, Skipping Christmas by John Grisham and The Corrections by Jonathan Franzen now join the Harry Potter series atop the list of Amazon.com's bestselling books so far this season.

What Customers Wish For: With nearly 5 million customer Wish Lists at Amazon.com including over 1.3 million different items, there's no mistaking what customers want most this holiday season. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the Gladiator DVD, The Godfather DVD Collection, Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban are the most common Wish List items so far this holiday season.
