Researchers have found Graham Norton and Kathy Burke are the nation's most popular male and female fantasy dinner guests. A survey by men's magazine Arena also saw Kylie Minogue trump Victoria Beckham in the battle of the pop queens once more.

The diminutive Aussie diva was the eighth most popular female guest - just behind Baroness Thatcher - while Mrs Beckham did not even get a foot in the door. Arena asked readers to invite 10 celebrities and one mystery guest from a list of 140 to an imaginary dinner party for the survey.

Nigella Lawson came second out of the women, with the Royle Family's Caroline Aherne in third place. Other top female scorers were Mo Mowlam, Germaine Greer and Tomb Raider's Angelina Jolie. Rock star Bryan Ferry was the second most popular male dinner guest among an eclectic mix which included Jonathan Ross, Naked Chef Jamie Oliver, Gladiator star Russell Crowe and Jack Nicholson.

Aston Villa's David Ginola took third place, while England skipper David Beckham had to settle for eighth. Among the 120 who did not make the guest list were Osama bin Laden, Noel Gallagher, Madonna, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jennifer Lopez.
