Teri
Polo will star opposite Angelina Jolie in Mandalay
Entertainment's Beyond Borders which Paramount
Pictures is distributing. The project will go
into production early next year and will reunite
Polo with the studio for which the actress stars
in Domestic Disturbance opposite John Travolta
and Vince Vaughn. Directed by Martin Campbell,
"Borders" is a love story between an American
named Sarah Jordan (Jolie) and British doctor
Nick Ward (Clive Owen).
The story
takes place during the course of many years and
is set against the backdrop of worldwide humanitarian
efforts. Polo will play Sarah's sister, Charlotte,
a journalist who makes a name for herself in television
covering war-torn areas around the world. Caspian
Tredwell-Owen wrote the script, which is being
produced by Dan Halsted. Filming begins on location
in Namibia next February for the scene of the
1981 famine that prompted a massive relief effort
by overseas artistes led by then Boomtown Rats
singer Bob Geldof. Five Ethiopians will also take
character roles.
Producers
had originally penciled the scenic geographical
contrasts of Kenya for the movie, but South Africa
won the Hollywood production after a government
official mistook the word Ebola for Abiola, Nigeria's
late presidential hopeful, and refused filming
permission because Kenya was a friend of Nigeria
and did not want to tarnish the name of the country's
leader.
