Spurred on by Paramount Pictures Tomb Raider movie and the upcoming Resident Evil motion picture, Dimension Films will further compound the transition from console to cinema after getting the green light to port "Alone In The Dark" to the silver screen, Empire reports today.

The latest video game to mount the pixilated bandwagon will chronicle the exploits of supernatural investigator Edward Carnby who, while investigating the death of a close friend, picks up the trail of some ancient tablets which lead him to Shadow Island and the wrath of demonic shadow creatures eagerly awaiting his arrival.

Dimension Films are hoping to capitalize on a huge "Alone In The Dark" fan base to avoid the pitfalls previous video-game adaptations have stumbled across, namely Mario Brothers, Mortal Combat and Street Fighter.
