CRYSTAL DYNAMICS PUBLISHES CROFT MANOR ARCHIVES LETTER EXPANDING TOMB RAIDER LORE
[ 16 July 2026 ]
Crystal Dynamics has released a fictional letter as part of the Croft Manor Archives, a collection of in-universe documents created to expand the background of the Tomb Raider series and its central character, Lara Croft.
The letter is dated 1887 and is written from Croft Manor by T.E. Croft to future heirs of the Croft family. It describes the responsibilities associated with inheriting the Croft name and introduces the Society of Raiders, a group of scholars, thieves, nobles and others who seek hidden knowledge and discoveries.
In the letter, T.E. Croft explains that the Society operates according to a set of rules, including obligations between members, consequences for betrayal, penalties for killing without recompense and the importance of protecting places of sanctuary. The document also refers to Society Marks, tokens used among members as a form of currency based on trust rather than material value.
The letter states that the Society's purpose is connected to the search for hidden truths, referencing its credo: "Verum Invenire, Virtus Revela" ("Discover Truth, Uncover Power"). T.E. Croft describes encounters with ancient sites and artefacts, and presents the pursuit of knowledge as a responsibility passed down through generations.
The document concludes by addressing future heirs of the Croft family, stating that following this path may involve danger, rivalry and the discovery of secrets, and that uncovering hidden knowledge is preferable to leaving it to those who would use it for harmful purposes.
