TOMB RAIDER CHRONICLES WEBSITE CONTINUES ARCHIVAL WORK AFTER 26 YEARS
[ 15 July 2026 ]
The Tomb Raider Chronicles website has marked the 26th anniversary of its launch. The website, which went online on 15 July 2000, was established as an archive dedicated to documenting the history of the Tomb Raider franchise through the preservation of official assets and related developments.
According to figures published by the website, the archive currently contains 12,502 web pages, 5,666 news articles and 80,912 images. Tomb Raider Chronicles states that it operates on a non-commercial, not-for-profit basis and is not affiliated with, owned by, or operated by the Crystal Dynamics Group of Companies.
The preservation of video games and related material has become an increasing area of focus within the games industry and archival community. Official artwork, promotional material, press releases, screenshots and other development records provide historical context for the development, release and ongoing history of games. As official online content is updated or removed over time, archives can help ensure that these materials remain accessible for historical reference.
Since Lara Croft made her debut in the original Tomb Raider in 1996, the franchise has expanded across multiple video game releases, films, comics, novels and other media. As the series has continued to evolve under different developers and publishers, archives such as Tomb Raider Chronicles provide a record of official material spanning almost three decades of the franchise's history.
