SIGOURNEY WEAVER JOINS LIVE-ACTION TOMB RAIDER SERIES IN ALMERIA

Sigourney Weaver is in Almeria for the filming of the live-action Tomb Raider television series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, according to a report by La Voz de Almeria. The production is based on the Lara Croft video game character and is approaching the end of its filming schedule in the province after more than three weeks.

According to the Spanish newspaper, filming in Almeria began in mid-June following work in Girona. The production has used locations including El Chorrillo in Sierra Alhamilla, the Tabernas Desert, Plaza Pavia in Almeria city, and the Las Salinas road in Cabo de Gata. Filming at Las Salinas earlier this week resulted in temporary restrictions on vehicle access. The production is expected to move to another location in Andalusia in the coming days.

La Voz de Almeria also reports that Weaver has been in Almeria since late June, although details of her filming schedule and the locations she has visited have not been disclosed. In the series, she plays Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious and influential woman who is interested in exploiting Lara Croft's talents.

Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced development of the live-action Tomb Raider television series in May 2024. Principal photography began in January 2026. Sophie Turner stars as Lara Croft, a British archaeologist and adventurer. The cast also includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson. The series is based on the Tomb Raider video game franchise.

The production is a joint venture between Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics. Executive producers include Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins for Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen, and Michael Scheel for Legendary Television.
