TOMB RAIDER BECOMES KEY ASSET IN EMBRACER'S FELLOWSHIP ENTERTAINMENT PUSH

Embracer CEO Phil Rogers has highlighted Tomb Raider as a key asset in the company's new standalone public business, Fellowship Entertainment, during an interview with The Game Business. Crystal Dynamics and the Tomb Raider IP sit alongside other major properties such as Warhorse (Kingdom Come Deliverance) and Middle-earth Enterprises in this more centralised group focused on aligned studios, genres, technology, and strong IP.

In the interview, Rogers also discussed upcoming Tomb Raider projects being published by Amazon, Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, releasing this year, and Tomb Raider Catalyst, due next year. Both are being developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog. While Amazon's reduced focus on games publishing has affected the projects, it has also strengthened collaboration with Amazon Luna and opened opportunities for integration with the upcoming Tomb Raider TV series on Prime Video.

Rogers expressed optimism about cross-promotion, envisioning players seamlessly switching between watching the series and playing the games via controller on Luna, similar to Amazon's approach with Fallout. He also referenced his Square Enix days overseeing smaller Lara Croft spin-offs such as Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, developed by a team of around 20 people in about a year, as an example of efficient, lower-budget creative development.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, scheduled for release in 2026, is a reimagining of the original 1996 title developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive. It includes redesigned environments, updated gameplay mechanics, refined sound design, classic exploration, and expanded storytelling, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original.

Tomb Raider Catalyst, planned for release in 2027, is positioned as the next mainline instalment and follows the character Lara Croft in a narrative set in Northern India. Both titles are in development using Unreal Engine 5 and are intended for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
