SIGOURNEY WEAVER DISCUSSES ROLE IN TOMB RAIDER TELEVISION SERIES

Sigourney Weaver has commented on Amazon's Tomb Raider television series in a recent interview with Kino. She stated that she enjoys working with writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge and described the character she plays, Evelyn Wallis, as one of the most wonderful characters she has been given. She also hints at the tone of the series.

Weaver noted that she has filmed some scenes with Sophie Turner, who plays Lara Croft, and that further scenes are scheduled. She also said that performing in an adventure comedy suits her and that she is particularly good at it.

"I love working with Phoebe - we always have a great time together. She has written one of the most wonderful characters I've ever been allowed to play. And with Sophie [Turner] I've only had the chance to shoot a few scenes so far, but there's more to come."

Referring to the tone of the series, Weaver said: "Doing an adventure comedy is just my thing - I think I'm particularly good at that. I've had a great career, but every time I get to do a comedy, it makes me especially happy."

Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced plans for the live-action Tomb Raider series in May 2024, with filming commencing in January 2026. Sophie Turner stars as British archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft, leading an ensemble cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie, and Bill Paterson in the latest screen adaptation of the iconic video game franchise.

The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios in association with Crystal Dynamics. The executive producers include Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Jenny Robins for Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen, and Michael Scheel for Legendary Television.
