UK INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY OFFICE REGISTERS NEW TOMB RAIDER TRADE MARKS

The Intellectual Property Office has formally registered two new trade marks associated with the Tomb Raider franchise, confirming their entry on 13 March 2026 following applications filed on 12 December 2025. The marks, titled Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis and Tomb Raider Catalyst, are both registered under Classes 9 and 41. These classifications cover a range of goods and services, including video game software, downloadable game programmes, and the provision and publication of online gaming content. Each registration is set for renewal on 12 December 2035.

The registration of these marks in the United Kingdom establishes legal protection for their use in relation to commercial video game products and associated services. Both filings specify identical categories, encompassing physical media such as discs and cartridges, as well as digital distribution and online services. Equivalent applications remain under examination by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where neither mark has yet achieved registered status.

Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis, scheduled for release in 2026, is a reimagining of the original 1996 title developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive. It includes redesigned environments, updated gameplay mechanics, refined sound design, classic exploration, and expanded storytelling, while remaining faithful to the spirit of the original. Tomb Raider Catalyst, planned for release in 2027, is positioned as the next mainline instalment and follows the character Lara Croft in a narrative set in Northern India. Both titles are in development using Unreal Engine 5 and are intended for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC platforms.
