UK IPO PUBLISHES TRADEMARK APPLICATIONS FOR UPCOMING TOMB RAIDER TITLES
[ 13 January 2026 ]
The UK Intellectual Property Office has published trademark applications relating to two forthcoming Tomb Raider titles, Tomb Raider Catalyst and Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis. Both applications were filed on 12 December 2025 and cover Class 9 and Class 41. Class 9 includes video game discs, cartridges, video game software, and downloadable video and computer game programs, while Class 41 covers services such as providing online video games, multimedia publishing of video game software, online information relating to computer games, and music publishing. The filings indicate an intention to use the trademarks across physical releases, digital distribution, and associated online services.
Trademark applications are a standard step in protecting intellectual property, ensuring that the titles can be used exclusively in connection with the specified goods and services. Following publication, the applications are subject to an opposition period during which third parties may challenge them. If no objections are upheld, and the applications meet all legal requirements, the trademarks will proceed to registration, securing protection for the Tomb Raider titles in the UK market.
Scheduled for release in 2026, Tomb Raider Legacy of Atlantis is a reimagining of Tomb Raider, first developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive in 1996. The title combines a modern visual presentation and revised gameplay systems with the tone and structural framework of the original game. Tomb Raider Catalyst, the next mainline entry in the series, is scheduled for release in 2027 and follows Lara Croft as she travels to Northern India in the aftermath of a catastrophic event that has awakened ancient forces.
Both upcoming Tomb Raider titles are being developed using Unreal Engine 5 and are planned for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
