SOPHIE TURNER CREATING AN ORIGINAL LARA CROFT IN TOMB RAIDER SERIES

British actress Sophie Turner has told SiriusXM that she is undertaking extensive research through the games and comics while deliberately avoiding previous film portrayals, in order to develop an original interpretation of Lara Croft rather than emulate earlier performances. Turner will play the British archaeologist in Amazon MGM's upcoming live-action Tomb Raider series.

"I'm playing the games, I'm reading the comics. I've got the Colossal Collections, which are 500 pages. I'm kind of doing all of it, but not really focusing on the previous interations, because I don't want to imitate, I've gotta create my own thing. So, as much as I love those movies, I can't watch them right now," Turner tells SiriusXM.

Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics announced plans for a live-action Tomb Raider series were announced in May 2024. Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Celia Imrie and Bill Paterson will appear alongside Sophie Turner, forming an ensemble cast for the latest screen adaptation of the iconic video-game franchise.

The Tomb Raider series is executive produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Jenny Robins through Wells Street Films, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson through Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, and Legendary Television.

Tomb Raider Live Action Series
