TASHA HUO ON LARA CROFT'S GROWTH IN SERIES TWO OF TOMB RAIDER ANIME
[ 2 January 2026 ]
What's On Netflix has published an interview with Tomb Raider The Legend of Lara Croft showrunner Tasha Huo, who explained that the focus of series two shifts from Lara's past trauma to her personal growth and the challenges she faces in the present. Huo says the series also explores her human flaws, particularly her awkwardness and difficulty in communicating with others, which affect both her relationships and her adventures.
Huo highlighted the creative decisions behind the series's narrative, including the integration of West African, specifically Yoruba, mythology. This arose from a desire to explore underrepresented cultures and stories in a respectful and informed manner, guided by the writers' personal connections and cultural research. She says the show's portrayal of voodoo as a positive, unifying philosophy was supported by consultations with cultural experts to ensure authenticity.
Reflecting on her growth as a storyteller, Huo noted that crafting the series demanded careful attention to the audience's experience, balancing plot, character development, and the sense of adventure. Finally, Huo emphasised the importance of collaboration in animation, recognising the value of her writers' contributions in shaping the story and enriching the series. While series two marks the conclusion of the show on Netflix, Huo expressed pride in the creative achievements of the team and the personal impact the show has had on viewers.
