AMAZON GAMES PARTNERSHIP WITH EMBRACER GROUP REMAINS INTACT AMID RESTRUCTURING
[ 13 November 2025 ]
In response to the recent announcement by Amazon.com, Inc. of sweeping job cuts across its corporate structure, including the gaming division, Phil Rogers, Group Chief Executive of Embracer Group, emphasised that the company's relationship with Amazon remains unchanged. Crystal Dynamics, an Embracer Group company, is currently developing the next Tomb Raider title using Unreal Engine 5, with Amazon Games providing global publishing support.
Speaking during the interim report for the second quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, Rogers stated: "Amazon Games remains our publishing partner. We saw their news a couple of weeks ago about the changes, we read the same notes that perhaps we've all read. Internally, we continue absolutely on the same track. It's a very important game for us, our teams are fully dedicated to delivering these games, and we work hand in hand with Amazon through that. There's really no change there."
Despite halting a substantial portion of its first-party AAA development, particularly in the massively multiplayer online (MMO) genre, Amazon continues to support select high-profile external collaborations. Notably, the company remains partnered with Crystal Dynamics on the next instalment of the Tomb Raider franchise. This new title, to be published under Amazon's banner, underscores the firm's ongoing investment in established intellectual properties with strong console appeal.
