TOMB RAIDER ANNIVERSARY JOINS PLAYSTATION PLUS CLASSICS ON PS4 AND PS5

Sony has announced that Tomb Raider Anniversary, first released on 1 June 2007 for the PlayStation 2, will be made available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 as part of its PlayStation Plus Classics initiative. Developed by Crystal Dynamics and originally published by Eidos Interactive, the game was conceived as a reimagining of the 1996 Tomb Raider. Drawing upon the framework established in Tomb Raider Legend, it sought to modernise Lara Croft's earliest adventure while retaining the structure and spirit of the original.

At the time of its release, Tomb Raider Anniversary launched on PlayStation 2 and Windows PCs, with versions for the PSP, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Mac following later. The title was well received, praised as both a respectful tribute to the franchise's origins and a means of introducing Lara Croft to a new generation of players. Its blend of classic level design with updated technology gave the game a distinct place within the series' long history.

Its arrival on PlayStation 4 and 5 now marks the latest addition to Sony's PlayStation Plus Classics catalogue, which curates notable titles from the platform's past for modern hardware. While the publisher has not confirmed whether this edition will feature any technical improvements, it is expected to remain faithful to the 2007 release, underscoring Lara Croft's enduring cultural presence nearly three decades after her debut.
