SOPHIE TURNER TO STAR AS LARA CROFT IN AMAZON'S UPCOMING TOMB RAIDER SERIES
[ 3 September 2025 ]
Amazon MGM Studios has announced that Sophie Turner will take on the iconic role of Lara Croft in its forthcoming Tomb Raider television series. The project will be led by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who will serve as creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner, while Jonathan Van Tulleken is confirmed as director and executive producer. Chad Hodge will also join the production as co-showrunner and executive producer.
Originally developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive in 1996, Tomb Raider introduced audiences to British adventurer Lara Croft, establishing a franchise that has since expanded to include eleven mainline video games, numerous spin-off titles, films starring Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, and an extensive range of merchandise. The video game series is currently under the aegis of Crystal Dynamics, who are also developing a new Tomb Raider title powered by Unreal Engine 5.
Amazon MGM Studios confirmed the casting of Sophie Turner on its official X page, following an announcement in May 2024 by Crystal Dynamics that Lara Croft would appear in a new Tomb Raider live-action series on Amazon Prime Video. Production is scheduled to begin on 19 January, 2026.
