LARA CROFT AND THE GUARDIAN OF LIGHT MARKS FIFTEENTH ANNIVERSARY
[ 18 August 2025 ]
Today marks fifteen years since the release of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light in North America on Xbox 360. Launched on 18 August 2010, the title represented a departure from the traditional Tomb Raider format, offering players a new perspective on the long-running franchise.
Developed by Crystal Dynamics, the game was notable as the first Tomb Raider entry to be distributed exclusively as a digital download. Designed as an action-adventure experience, it adopted an isometric viewpoint rather than the familiar third-person perspective associated with the series.
The title combined core elements of exploration, puzzle-solving and platforming with fast-paced combat and co-operative gameplay. Set in Central America, players navigated environments filled with traps, vertical tomb structures and hostile creatures drawn from Mayan mythology, facing the resurrection of the god Xolotl and his army of undead warriors.
The anniversary arrives as the wider Tomb Raider series continues to evolve, with new projects in development and the character of Lara Croft remaining one of the most recognisable figures in modern video games. Our dedicated Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light section contains fifteen years' worth of related assets and materials, providing an extensive record of the game's history.
