WETA WORKSHOP UNVEILS LARA CROFT QUEST OF AVALON STATUE
[ 20 July 2025 ]
Weta Workshop has unveiled its latest collectible: Lara Croft: Quest for Avalon, a limited edition 1:4 scale statue inspired by the critically acclaimed Tomb Raider Underworld. This striking piece captures the iconic adventurer mid-dive, fully equipped in her diving suit and armed with a harpoon gun, as she navigates the treacherous depths in search of the fabled island of Avalon.
Meticulously sculpted by Jorgelina Yeme, with additional detailing by Mauro Santini, the statue presents Lara in a dynamic underwater scene that embodies both beauty and danger. The composition is rich in environmental detail, including circling sharks, drifting jellyfish, and a school of fish weaving through coral-encrusted ruins. Every element has been crafted with exceptional precision, evoking the mythic scale and tension of Lara's submerged journey.
The piece is primarily constructed from polystone, offering both durability and fine textural fidelity. It rests on an intricately designed base, filled with sea debris and ancient, crumbling stone structures that speak to the mystery and antiquity of Lara's world. The statue offers a vivid, three-dimensional narrative that reflects the heroine's unwavering resolve and grace under pressure.
Senior 3D Artist Jorgelina Yeme described the creative process as both challenging and inspiring, noting the unique experience of sculpting a figure in a state of weightlessness. "There's a poetry to this pose; as if Lara is dancing with the sharks, weightless and fearless," Yeme explained. "Sculpting her underwater meant letting go of gravity, which goes against the usual instinct of a sculptor. But that challenge was part of the thrill. I especially loved capturing her form, that perfect balance of strength, elegance, beauty and danger that defines Lara Croft."
Lara Croft: Quest for Avalon is scheduled to ship in Q1 2026. For further details and pre-order information, visit the official Weta Workshop website.
