TOMB RAIDER LIVE-ACTION SERIES 'NOT DEAD AND TRACKING FORWARD'
[ 25 April 2025 ]
Story Kitchen has confirmed to Polygon that the live-action Tomb Raider series from Amazon MGM Studios is 'not dead and still tracking forward' following earlier reports that the show had been cancelled. Dmitri M. Johnson also reflected on the approach taken with the Tomb Raider adaptation and how it differed from previous iterations.
"The original Tomb Raider films, [the creatives] largely felt like they were not as much a part of that conversation as they would've liked. So the first thing we did [with Tomb Raider] was, we flew up to Crystal Dynamics several times, and spent hours just filling up whiteboards: Lara Croft is this. She's not this. We're going to touch on this. We're not going to touch on this. And we ended up with this exercise that really created this creative sandbox, and it was really effective." Dmitri M. Johnson told Polygon.
"If our game partners are too busy focusing on the next game, they knew that their vision, that their concerns, were documented. In the case of Crystal, they have more resources than others. So we actually have had dedicated teammates."
Crystal Dynamics announced in May of 2024 that Lara Croft is coming to Amazon Prime Video in a new Tomb Raider live-action series. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is attached as writer and executive producer, with Dmitri M. Johnson, Amanda Greenblatt, and Ryan Andolina also attached as producers, according to the Film and Television Industry Alliance.
