EIDOS MONTREAL IMPACTED BY EMBRACER RESTRUCTURING
[ 29 January 2024 ]
Shadow of the Tomb Raider developer Eidos Montreal has issued a statement following a series of redundancies that have impacted the studio. Formed in November 2007, Eidos Montreal is responsible for developing the Deux Ex franchise, Thief, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Marvel's Avengers and Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
"For the last 17 years, our teams at Eidos have worked on some of the most beloved brands in the industry, combining deep storytelling and innovation into unique games. We have created memorable multi awarded experiences that we are proud of and we know our teams members have put their heart and soul in all of them". Eidos Montreal posted on Twitter.
"The global economic context, the challenges of our industry and the comprehensive restructuring announced by Embracer have finally impacted our studio. The difficult decision has been made to let go 97 people from development teams, administration, and support services."
Eidos Montreal states their priority now is for the well-being of their team and "continuous commitment to creating games that players will be able to enjoy in the near future."
In June 2023, Embracer Group announced a comprehensive restructuring program with immediate implementation. As part of the restructuring program, Phil Rogers was appointed interim Chief Strategy Officer and Matthew Karch was appointed interim Chief Operating Officer. The restructuring program was announced following the collapse of a two-billion dollar deal with an unnamed suitor.
