STUDIO ONOMA ANNOUNCES CLOSURE OF MOBILE GAMES
[ 23 November 2022 ]
Studio Onoma, formerly Square Enix Montreal, has announced a number of titles will be shutting down on January 4th following the closure of the studio as part of corporate restructuring by Embracer Group. Lara Croft GO does not appear to be affected by the shutdown.
"Arena Battle Champions, Deus Ex GO, Hitman Sniper: The Shadows and Space Invaders: Hidden Heroes will be shutting down on January 4th." the studio announced on Twitter. "The games will be removed from the App Store and Google Play Store on December 1st, and current payers will not be able to access the games past January 4th."
"Efffective immediately, in-game purchases are stopped. We encourage prior in-game purchases to be used before January 4th, as they will not be refunded. On behalf of the development team, we would like to thank you for playing our games."
Studio Onoma, previously Square Enix Montreal and Square Enix London Mobile, has been shuttered by new owners Embracer Group. The studio was recently acquired alongside Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal from Square Enix. The closure is part of a company-wide initiative to reduce overheads and focus development on PC and console gaming.
