Aspyr
Media have officially announced the release of
Tomb Raider Chronicles for the Macintosh platform
which will ship with Core Designs level editor,
Mac Central reports today:
Mac game
publisher Aspyr Media first promised it last week,
and today the company officially announced the
release of Tomb Raider Chronicles, the latest
in the popular action game series to be released
for the Macintosh (news - web sites). The company
has released the game just in time to cash in
on the popularity of the new action movie featuring
Angelina Jolie. The game was originally developed
by Core Design and published for the PC by Eidos
Interactive. Licensed for the Mac and published
by Aspyr Media, Tomb Raider Chronicles was ported
by Mac game conversion studio Westlake Interactive,
which has handled the conversion of all Tomb Raider
games since the release of Tomb Raider II. A few
things set Tomb Raider Chronicles apart from the
rest of the games in the series. Tomb Raider Chronicles
ships with its own level editor, enabling users
to make and share their own environments for Lara
Croft to explore. It is also the first game in
the series to arrive built for Mac OS X.
The game
itself incorporates four separate adventures that
players will have to beat. Focused around a memorial
service for intrepid adventurer Lara Croft --
who is still missing following the events of Tomb
Raider: The Last Revelation. Her friends each
recount a heroic tale of adventure that gives
some insight into Lara's past. The game features
graphical improvements like increased detail,
improved lighting, more characters and objects
and greater environmental interaction. Lara has
a more flexible inventory system and can combine
objects as well. Lara herself gains some new abilities
like tightrope walking, parallel bar swinging
and hand-to-hand stealth attack. Her arsenal has
grown, too -- she'll get the use of a grappling
hook gun, sniper rifle and chloroform, and she'll
be able to search through files, drawers and other
containers for useful items.
System
requirements include a G3 266MHz or faster; OpenGL-compatible
3D hardware acceleration (ATI RAGE Pro or better);
Mac OS 8.6 or higher including Mac OS X; 32MB
RAM; 4x CD-ROM. Aspyr said that the game will
play on any iMac Rev. B or higher. The level editor
requires an additional 300MB of uncompressed hard
disk space.
Tomb
Raider Chronicles will be available wherever Mac
games are sold, and carries a suggested retail
price of US$39.95.
