ALICIA VIKANDER GIVES UPDATE ON TOMB RAIDER SEQUEL

Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander has given an update on a sequel to the Roar Uthaug-helmed Tomb Raider reboot during press for The Glorias, via entertainment news outlet Cinema Blend. "The plan was for us to start making one this year, of course due to the situation, that's now very different. We still are in discussions about it, so I hope we can probably get to it next year." the star told Good Morning America.

British filmmaker Ben Wheatley will direct the Tomb Raider motion picture sequel, according to a report by Deadline. The film will see Alicia Vikander reprise her role as British aristocrat Lara Croft. Both MGM and Graham King will produce. The Tomb Raider sequel was originally scheduled to release on 19 March, 2021 however production has been delayed.

Tomb Raider, starring Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, released in 2018 and grossed 274m USD worldwide. The motion picture based on the video-game series from Square Enix rebooted a series originally led by Oscar-winning actress Angelina Jolie.

The original film, Lara Croft Tomb Raider, released in 2001 and grossed 274m USD. Lara Croft Tomb Raider The Cradle of Life released in 2003 and grossed 156m USD, according to figures provided by Box Office Mojo.
