An internet
campaign to boost Lara croft's race to her own
road name in Derby has generated more than 17,000
votes, eclipsing the nearest competitor Merlin
who currently stands at 207 votes, reports This
Is Derbyshire. Exposure on numerous gaming
web sites and blogs has attracted votes from all
over the world.
Lucy
Care, cabinet member for planning and transport
said she was pleased to see so many people had
voted on-line. She said: "Lara Croft has become
a popular icon of modern, turn-of-the-century
culture. Her popularity in the polls has captured
the imagination of people throughout the world
but this is no surprise."
Lara
Croft Way had been shortlisted as a possible candidate
along with John Flamsteed Way, Griffon Way, Merlin
Way, Sorocold Way, Steve Bloomer Way, Eagle Way
and Mercian Way. Voting will conclude January
31, 2010.
