Derby
City Council recently canvassed the public on
possible names for a new road under construction
as part of the Connecting Derby scheme, and were
not altogether surprised at some of the submissions.
According to This
Is Derbyshire, Lara
Croft and Florence Nightingale were both pitted
as possible suitors by members of the public.
John
Forkin, director of Marketing Derby, said he was
in favour of something modern. "If you think about
roads we have, like Sir Frank Whittle Road and
St Alkmunds Way, roads can say something about
where the city has come from and what it is proud
of being associated with," he said.
"We have
waited a long time for this road and we need to
give it a name and the right name. Personally
I would be in favour of something that projects
something new and modern about the city so I quite
like the Lara Croft idea."
The link
to Lara Croft in Derby is through Core Design,
original architects of Tomb
Raider who were based in Pride Park, Derby.
E-mail your own suggestions for a road name to
samantha.whitworth@derby.gov.uk
before August 28.
