Two real life tomb raiders have received suspended death sentences after a court in China found them guilty of looting hundreds of artefacts from a 1,000-year-old tomb belonging to the Northern Song dynasty.

According to The Telegraph, China has imposed increasingly tough penalties for tomb robbing in recent years in an attempt to stop a thriving trade in stolen antiquities. Suspended death sentences usually are commuted later to long prison terms if convicts are deemed reformed.
