Riley Cooper and Morgan Gray have both given candid interviews to Official Playstation Magazine on the future direction of Tomb Raider, the influence original architect Toby Gard had on Tomb Raider Legend and a hint towards future online multi-play.

According to Cooper: "Very early on in the design process, online was considered and then dropped. We had our work cut out for us in delivering a quality single-player experience. Part of the problem with multi-player in the Tomb Raider universe is there aren't many characters you'd want to play beside Lara. That said, I wouldn't rule it out as a future possibility.

The duo from Crystal Dynamics also promise more of the same in future episodes of Tomb Raider, appealing to both hardened fans of the series and those trying out Lara for the first time. "People want a good looking game. We had a couple of physics puzzles that we were excited about that we weren't able to get in. Look for lots of physics based fun in the next games."

"The length of the game is always a challenge, given the art fidelity we go for. That much custom content for every corner of the game, let alone every level, means that everything takes a long time to build - and then a long time to iterate - as new technology comes online."

Commenting on Toby Gard, Riley says: "It was great to have Toby on board in developing Legend. He's smart and friendly and obviously cares a lot about Lara. He did a lot of different things on Legend, including providing direction for cinematics, collaborating on story, and doing character concepts."

The full interview with Riley Cooper and Morgan Gray is available in Official Playstation Magazine (Sept 2006).
