American
archaeologists have unearthed an unknown circular
structure approximately 200 feet in diameter while
excavating a 2,000 year old earth-works site close
to Fort Ancient State Memorial, according to Associated
Press.
"The
reaction is 'Wow!'" Jack Blosser, Fort Ancient's
site manager, said of the new find. Blosser said
the last major discovery at the site was the remains
of several homes found during excavation for a
museum and garden area built in 1998.
Fort
Ancient Earthworks is situated on the east side
of the Little Miami River, on a bluff rising about
two hundred and seventy feet above the valley
floor. Earthen walls follow the irregular edge
of a hill that is practically isolated from the
general upland area by deep ravines.
