Eidos
took a detour en route to the German Game Convention
in Leipzig and swung code from Total Overdose
into the offices of IGN Entertainment. The online
gaming portal reviewed the progress to date and
noted their opinion in an
interesting article on the exploits of Ramiro
Cruz, an ex-con who gets let out of jail just
to go down south and blow away legions of bad
guys.
"In that
glorious B-movie spirit, Total Overdose piles
it on and on and has plenty of laughs along the
way. Take some of the spirit of Serious Sam, mix
it up with some Max Payne jump shots and set the
whole thing down in Mexico and let the whole thing
marinate in some tequila and this is the result."
"Even
though Total Overdose isn't looking like the most
refined game, it knows what it's going for and
that's some ridiculous arcade-style violence.
It veers wildly close to being stupid, but the
goofiness saves it entirely. It also throws in
a large arsenal of weapons and a wide variety
of moves to deal with everything. And for that
it's worth paying attention to."
Total
Overdose is being marketed as a "super-cool, tequila
fuelled rampage through Mexico's gun-toting, drug-pushing
underworld." The game will release on PC, PS2
and Xbox September 2005.
