One of
Britain's best-loved television presenters, Richard
Whiteley, has died. The host of Channel Four's
Countdown had been recovering from pneumonia and
was forced to miss recording the upcoming series.
According to the BBC,
Ms Vorderman's agent, John Miles, confirmed Mr
Whiteley had died.
The endearing
Richard Whiteley had presented the afternoon quiz
show Countdown for twenty three years before becoming
ill in May 2005 suffering from pneumonia. Opera
diva Lesley Garrett and film critic Barry Norman
had been lined up to guest-present the show while
Mr Whiteley was recovering.
There
has been no comment from Channel 4 at time of
press.
